Learning the level should be the challenge, not memorizing where the enemies are. The advantage of this would be numerous it obviously stings less and makes the bullshit easier to swallow, the player wouldn't need to grab their lost rings and the lack of being knock back animation would help keep the pace these games strive for.įrom the perspective of a non fan, I've always felt like the real challenge of a Sonic game was the level layout itself and the enemies always felt redundant. Fans of these games would say that this is to punish charging mindlessly, which has some logic I suppose, but I propose an alternative instead of an enemy, why not just a wall or any environmental design that prevents you going forward.
It's something that I've always felt was a pointless frustration when you're speeding forward only to be hit by an enemy that appears at an instant.
So this question isn't about the 3d entries since I have no experience with how they're designed. Sonic Unleashed WII ISO everyone’s favorite hedgehog breaks new ground yet maintains his roots in a game that combines amazing next gen capabilities with classic Sonic 2D gameplay Having been broken apart by the evil Dr Eggman, it’s down to Sonic to put the pieces of the world back together again by retrieving the power of the chaos emeralds.
Granted, I've only ever played the 2d games, specifically Sonic 2, CD and a little bit of Mania. So I'm of the camp that has never liked a Sonic game.
